Exploring Minimalism: Journeys That Encourage Me to Explore This Lifestyle

Exploring Minimalism: People Who Encourage Me to Live This Lifestyle

I expressed in one of my posts that I've been reading up on minimalism since I realized that clutter has crept into our lives. I thought I should share about a few of the people I've been following who are living it and have found more purpose and joy in owning less.

If you're in the process of decluttering your space, or your life, you will find their stories very helpful. Even if you don't want to become a minimalist, you can still benefit from their journeys.

1. Joshua Becker of Becoming Minimalist
After a conversation with my neighbor on Memorial Day 2008, we decided to become minimalist and intentionally live with fewer possessions. We cleared the clutter from our home and lives.
As a result, we found a better way to live centered on more important pursuits. It has been a journey of discovering the abundant life is actually found in owning less. And it still ranks as one the best decisions we’ve ever made.

2. Joshua Fields Millburn & Ryan Nicodemus, The Minimalists
For us, it all started with a lingering discontent. A few years ago, while approaching age 30, we had achieved everything that was supposed to make us happy: great six-figure jobs, luxury cars, oversized houses, and all the stuff to clutter every corner of our consumer-driven lifestyles.

And yet with all that stuff, we weren’t satisfied with our lives. We weren’t happy. There was a gaping void, and working 70–80 hours a week just to buy more stuff didn’t fill the void: it only brought more debt, stress, anxiety, fear, loneliness, guilt, overwhelm, and depression.

3. Courtney Carver of Be More With Less
If you are overwhelmed and under-inspired, I know how you feel. I've been there. I've worked to hard, spent too much, and slept too little. I spent much of my adult life tired, full, stressed and sick. I always wanted more or thought I needed more to be happy, but I've changed my ways.
In 2006, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. While it doesn’t define me or this blog, it has had a huge impact on my life. Sometimes I share the lessons a life changing diagnosis delivers. I created Be More with Less and minimalist fashion challenge Project 333 in 2010. The past few years have been an incredible journey of love, health, and simplicity. I’m so grateful to be on this path.

As I explore their blogs, I feel that I'm equipped to tackle our own clutter, but I'm already finding that it is a struggle. I know that it is going to be a long process, but I still am committed to my own journey to minimalism.

A while ago, I read a book called "7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess" by Jen Hatmaker. You might like it:
